| Anholt Touristinformation is open all year
round with changing different opening hours. However, it is always possible to
leave a message on the answering machine or send a fax. We have visitors roughly
speaking from week 7 until Christmas and New Year’s Eve but July is absolutely
the peak of the season. What do you do in winter?
The islanders take care of
job, home and family like anybody else. Most inhabitants know when and where to
find fungi, berries, etc. On the other hand, a visit to the theatre, cinema or a
wild shopping trip are rare. The nearest city is Grenaa on the mainland, nearly
3 hours away with the ferry.
Anholt has appr. 150 inhabitant – 9 small
children, 23
school children (incl. older hcildren in school on the mainland) and 123
grown-ups, incl. 39 pensionists.
The labour market on Anholt
differs from other places in that you have to have several jobs in order to have
full employment. The post-office clerk also works at the tourist agency, the
craftsman assists on the harbour, etc. Not counting jobs within tourism, there
are som 30 different trades and professions on Anholt that keep people busy. The
island is a living society, - even in winter. Up till now we have succeeded in
balancing between summers with about 5.000 people on the island per day, and
winters with about 150.
